De Babes spelen een zeer gevarieerd repertoire waarin humor veel aan de orde komt, maar de serieuze zaken des levens zeker niet gemeden worden. Hun speelstijl, die trekken van folk, bluegrass, pop en swing heeft, karakteriseren ze zelf met de term 'feminicana'. Behalve bekende 'gouwe ouwen'zoals Teenager in Love, All My Loving en Monday, Monday, komen ook bekende folksongs (Windy Harbour van Pete Abbott en Give Yourself to Love van Kate Wolf), en singer-songwriter-materiaal voorbij (zoals Shower the People van James Taylor en Jump Jim Crowe van Michelle Shocked). Ook hebben ze inmiddels een goed stuk eigen werk opgebouwd (o.a. Angel for a Child en Walk With me van Elly en The Harmony Train en The Dirty Loo van Adri). Met deze grote  muzikale variatie weten de Babes hun publiek achtereenvolgens te ontroeren, te amuseren en tot tranen toe te laten lachen.  

‘Mannentijd!’

En op het moment dat u denkt dat dit het wel was, trekken de Babes hun laatste troef uit de mouw: als u geluk heeft (en dat zit er meestal dik in bij een optreden van de Babes), zijn hun muzikale mannen van de partij en spelen zij een paar deuntjes mee. Bluegrass, wel te verstaan, onvervalst en onversneden. De driestemmige zang van de Babes wordt dan virtuoos ondersteund door Jan Pals op mandoline, Geert Schoonderwoerd op banjo en Bruno van Hoek op dobro & special effects.  

Repertoire

The Babes play a varied repertoire which reflects their keen sense of humour, without avoiding the more serious side of life. They describe their style as ‘feminicana’, touching on folk, bluegrass, pop and swing music. Besides the golden oldies such as Teenager in Love, All My Loving and Monday, Monday, their setlists also features the more contemporary folk songs (Windy Harbour by Pete Abbott en Give Yourself to Love by Kate Wolf) and singer-songwriter material (such as Shower the People by James Taylor en Jump Jim Crowe by Michelle Shocked). Besides those, they play their own originals: the beautiful, thoughtful songs by Elly (Angel for a Child, Walk With Me) and the upbeat, often hilairous songs by Adri (Harmony Train, The Dirty Loo). Be prepared to be moved, entertaine, in stitches and in tears when attending a Babes gig.

And just when you think things can’t get any better, the Babes will pull their trump card: if you’re lucky (which is very likely when you’re at a Babes concert), their three also musically gifted husbands have come along to join them on a few songs. Bluegrass songs, that is: the real and pure thing. The Babes’ three part harmony vocals will be sustained by virtuosos Jan Pals on mandolin, Geert schoonderwoerd on banjo and Bruno van Hoek on dobro & special effects.
